It’s Never Just About the Stuffing

It was the night before Thanksgiving a few years ago. The grocery store was a pre-holiday zoo, and I was just trying to grab the final things on my list.

A woman approached me in the aisle. She started with a simple, practical question about which product to pick, but it was clear she was looking for much more than a recommendation. She needed someone to stop, breathe, and simply see her.

So, for the next 45 minutes, we talked.

I learned about her beautiful family recipes, the tips she swore by for perfect stuffing, and the deep, painful ache she was carrying. This was her first Thanksgiving without her mother, and she poured out her grief and her memories right there between the canned goods and the bread cubes.

When we finally said our goodbyes, I hadn’t offered a single piece of advice. I didn’t try to fix her pain. I just listened, offered my unwavering support, reminded her how truly incredible she is, and gave her the space she needed to lean on someone for a little while.

That simple, shared moment showed me the power of compassionate presence. The world often feels heavy, and what people need most right now is to know they are not carrying that weight alone.

❤️ A Gentle Call to Connection

Let’s remember to be that kind of support for others today:

  • Check on your strong friends. They are often the pillars for others, and they need people, too.
  • Check on your quiet friends. They might be holding too much inside.
  • Check on your people. Everyone needs a listening ear and a gentle reminder of their worth.
  • And if you are carrying a heavy load, please reach out and get the support you need.

You are so incredible, and your kindness is a gift the world desperately needs.
