Why “Becoming Playful”?

I get asked sometimes, “Erica, if you are talking about child sleep, why isn’t your website something like

‘Super-Sleepy-Snuggles’

or ‘Bedtime-Winners’

or ‘C’mon Kid, Sleep Already.'”

And sure, I could change the name to something more “sleep” related …

But what happens here is so much more than sleep.

Honestly, “Play” can mean a whole lot of things.

But first …

Think of the word “work.”

What comes to mind? What thoughts start popping up?

* If I could just get this done …
* All I have to do is …
* S/he really should have …

How does your body feel when you think these thoughts?
Tense?
Tight?
Uncomfortable?
Maybe you start to get a bit sweaty?

Ok, shake it off.

Now, think of the word “play.”

What comes to mind? What thoughts start popping up?

* If I tried it this way …
* What would happen if I did this …
* How curious that she …

How does your body feel when you think these thoughts?
Open?
Lighter?
Free?
Maybe you aren’t quite as sweaty?

How do you approach bedtime when you feel like it is work? Versus how you approach bedtime when you feel more playful? (It’s ok if you haven’t approached it this way yet – no judgment, it is just a question).

And that is what I help parents do. I help them connect into that lighter, freer part of them. That takes an approach that actually feels good at bedtime.

Imagine what it could be like for your child.
Getting a mom or dad who is more easy-going at bedtime.
Still holding boundaries.
Still having a routine.
Still setting appropriate expectations.
AND isn’t feeling like bedtime is work.
Having a parent who took a few minutes before bedtime to connect with that deep sense that things are going to be ok.
That bedtime is going to go alright tonight, even if not exactly as planned.

A parent with the energy to meet their child, exactly where they are. And provide the support they need at bedtime.

That’s what I help parents with.

If you want to feel more playful, easy-going, and also have good routines and a safe sleep environment — I’m your lady.

Simply let me know what is going on. Tell me everything. I’m here to help.
